If you've been wondering how popular PUBG is on mobile, the answer is: very, as 17 million people have signed up for the upcoming PUBG New State mobile title.

PUBG New State was announced in February and described as "the only mobile successor to the original PC version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds." It is a futuristic version of PUBG set after the events of the original game, in the year 2051. It is supposed to have "ultra-realistic graphics" that will go beyond "what was previously possible in mobile game graphics", along with some new gameplay mechanics like dodging and Pilot drone calls and support requests.

Pre-registration was opened after the game was announced, where players can register their interest through Google Play and the App Store. And it seems to be getting a lot of attention, based on the numbers announced by PUBG Corp today.

"With the conclusion of PUBG New State's Closed Alpha, we are pleased to announce that we have also surpassed 17 million pre-registrations." Said the official account of the game on Twitter. "We want to thank everyone for the incredible support that has allowed us to achieve this incredible feat."

PUBG New State is scheduled to release sometime in 2021, and while there is no exact release date, the game's social media accounts said yesterday that it could be "very close." Attention: in March this year, it was revealed that PUBG Mobile was downloaded 1 billion times in total.

Regardless, if you decide to pre-register and join these 17 million people, it appears that you will receive a notification when the game is available, along with access to a limited vehicle skin as a bonus.

It looks like PUBG Corp has a lot going for it right now - the original PUBG will get new maps and a map enhancer, while an upcoming sci-fi horror game called The Callisto Protocol is due out next year. It also appears that a cowboy-themed PUBG game is in the works, although we've heard a lasso fight in its entirety as it has yet to be officially announced. PUBG is expected to arrive, in one form or another, by 2022 for PC and consoles. This is a different game from PUBG: New State for mobile devices only, a futuristic battle royale game that was revealed last week.

Well-known data miner PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds PlayerIGN (no relation to IGN or its affiliates) tweeted that the new status is not the eponymous PUBG 2 and that it has been expected for some time. In response to someone who asked if New State was the follow-up we were waiting for, PlayerIGN replied, "The PUBG 2 (PC / Console) thing is something we are still waiting for in 2022."

He stated that New State will remain on mobile devices, at least for now, and is not expected to interact with any of the other PUBG versions currently available. This is in line with a January report that a mobile game is due this year and another PUBG release next year. Developed by PUBG Corp and published by Krafton Inc. PUBG: New State places players on a new 8 × 8 map called Troi. Set in the year 2051, it features futuristic vehicles and more destructible environments, and according to the initial press release, players can "enjoy next-gen survival features that advance the battlefields."
