PUBG is back with its first new map in a while, and it's set in Korea. The new map, Taego, is part of the game's 12.2 update, which also adds an auto-revive element, a mini-battle royale to bring you back into the match after you die, and dozens of other changes.

Taego is an 8 km by 8 km map set in the Korean countryside. PUBG in-game unit head Taehyun Kim said in an email interview with Polygon that the goal of this map is to show players the beauty of Korea, especially in the '80s and '90s.

But while its size may be in line with that of traditional PUBG maps, some of Taego's other features are brand new to the game. For example, the game's new auto-rebirth component, which allows players who have fallen to get up, is very different from anything Battle Royale has offered before.
Taego also has a new mechanic called Comeback BR which will allow players who have been eliminated during the first blue zone a chance to come back. During Comeback BR, available only in Taego Duos, Duos, and Squads matches, players who die during the first blue zone will be taken to the Comeback Arena, where they will attempt to override a timer in a BR mini-match. This is a completely new mechanic for PUBG, but Kim said that players have been requesting it for a while now.
"We've repeatedly seen the feedback that we need to find a way to reduce the frustration of downed players in the first match," Kim told Polygon. "We also feel ID changes should be fixed. Comeback BR was developed to relieve player frustration and help them quickly join their team and win a chicken dinner upon their return."
